*** Make Surfing a Boo-tiful Experience ***

It's nearly that time of year when witches, goblins, and super-heroes descend
on neighborhoods across Nebraska, and we thought we'd take the time to
offer some Halloween safety suggestions, and to point you in the direction
of some fun and spooky Halloween sites.

Some simple, common sense practices can ensure that Halloween remains safe
and fun for kids of all ages.

Costumes
  * Choose bright colors or attach reflective tape
  *  Avoid sharp objects
  * Eliminate ropes, cords, or fabric that can choke
  * Make sure masks allow good vision

Trick or Treating
  * Adults should accompany younger children, with at least one adult for
     each four children
  * Older children should go in groups, and stay together
  *  Cross streets at corners
  *  No running
  *  Carry a flashlight

Candy
  * Inspect for tampering, allergy, and choking threats
  * Limit consumption to avoid sickness

Pumpkins
  * Have kids draw designs on pumpkin, let adults do the carving
  * Only adults should handle matches and light candles
  * Don't leave candles burning unattended

Keep Your Home Safe
  * Keep your home safe for visitors by removing objects that children
     could trip over.
  * Check outdoor lights and replace burned-out bulbs.
  * Sweep wet leaves away from sidewalks and steps.

Here are some fun Halloween sites for all ages to help you get in the
Halloween mood.

*** System Upgrades ***

We've scheduled a maintenance window for the wee hours of the morning on
Thursday, October 19th, from 12:01AM to 6:00AM. During this window we'll
be doing system maintenance and upgrades, and there may be short periods
where different parts of the IN Network are unavailable. For example, mail
may be inaccessible for 15 minutes at one point, and then ADSL customers
might be unable to access the Internet for another short period during
this window.

Several systems are being modified or upgraded in order to bring you a
more reliable and more secure Internet service.

*** Schaefer's TV & Appliance Center - Advertisement ***

Schaefer's is an independently owned and
 operated television, appliance, and home
 theater retailer in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Born out of a small corner drugstore four
decades ago, Schaefer's TV & Appliance is a
 22,000 square-foot "superstore" today,
 specializing in commercial/professional-grade
appliances, whole house sound systems, home
theater and central vacuum systems. The
success of Schaefer's is key to repeat
business. If a customer happens to have a
problem with a product, Schaefer's will bend
over backwards to get it solved. Our service
center is the largest in the city, and has been
 voted Lincoln's #1 servicer for 10 years in a
row! A knowledgeable sales staff, express
delivery, easy financing, and our customer
service representatives are just a few of the
ways in which we at Schaefer's distinguish
ourselves from the rest. Stop by our showroom
at 48th and R in Lincoln, or call us at
 and see for yourself.

*** High-tech Gadgets Move Mainstream ***

If you're like us, you love cool electronic gadgets. Although some of them
are technical marvels no useful purpose (think of Sony's super-expensive
robotic dog), some of the coolest gadgets are poised to change the way we
work and play.

Although it's been around for a while now, Sony's Glasstron continues to
amaze. This 3.4 ounce LCD display fits over your eyes like a pair of goggles,
and give you a display similar to what you'd experience from a 52" monitor
or TV from 6-1/2 feet away. Earplugs are included for dynamic digital sound.
Now you can experience big screen TV or large screen monitor viewing anywhere.
The price? Well, at $599.95 it's not the cheapest toy on the block, but it's
certainly cheaper than a large TV or monitor. You can read more about these
amazing glasses at
http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/home/glasstronrtm/glasstronrtm/plm-a35_specs.shtml

Another great little gadget is the ECHO Personal Digital Assistant. This
digital device is the size of a credit card and only 1/4" thick! It includes
a touch screen to add or change data, and comes with a telephone directory,
scheduler, calendar, memo pad, and even Outlook for e-mail. You can also
download software from the Internet. More information is available on-line
at http://www.oregonscientific.com/gettingorganized.html .

*** Mr. Internet ***

Q: My friend says that she makes long distance calls free over the Internet.
   How can I do this?

A: There are several services and programs that allow you to make long
distance calls free over the Internet. All of them require that you use
a headset on your computer, but the person on the other end can use a
regular telephone. Note that to get the best use out of these services,
you need a high-speed Internet connection, such as Internet Nebraska's
ADSL. The service I use personally is called Dialpad
( http://www.dialpad.com ). Simply open their website with Internet
Explorer or Netscape and sign up. The software installs into your
browser as a plug-in, and is totally free. You can then make free long
distance calls across the country. The sound quality isn't quite as
good as a regular telephone call, but it's certainly usable, and quite
   a money-saver!

Some other software and services are also available. You might want to
   check out Net2Phone ( http://www.homepageonline.com/software/Net2Phone/English/net2phone_free_software.htm )
   and Phone Free ( http://www.phonefree.com/index.html ).

Mr. Internet is a regular feature of the INews, and he welcomes questions
of any kind. Just mail them to mrinternet@inebraska.com, and he'll answer
one or two each issue. Those he doesn't use will not necessarily be
answered, and you should still use 'manager' and 'accounts' for regular
business.
